Living just south of Andersonville has several perks, most of which include being a few minutes away from several amazing bars and restaurants. One of my go-to joints when I need an early afternoon beer during the weekend is Jerrys Sandwiches & Sides. Not only will you find some stellar eats but the beer menu, both tap and in bottles and… Read More
It’s not the most glamorous place in a city filled with beautiful patios and beer gardens, but drinking a beer (or in this case, Vandermill cider) on the back fire escape of my apartment building is one of my favorite things to do when Chicago weather permits. Tucked away from the street noise, it’s a peaceful place to decompress after… Read More
It’s easy to get caught up in the latest barrel aged whatever or beer brewed with brett that requires a whale hunt the likes of which you’ve never never experienced. Sometimes you just need a classic, easy drinking beer to reset your palate every now and again. There’s nothing wrong for reaching for a simple pilsner done well by one… Read More
Craft breweries are popping up all over the country, but I was especially excited back in 2013 when Ahnapee Brewing opened it’s doors in the town I grew up in. With a population of approximately 3,000 people, needless to say, it’s not something I expected. Every time I’m in town to visit my family, I stop by and grab a… Read More
My first Oath Day was a good one. If there was ever a reason to make a trip out to the suburbs of Chicago, it’s for Solemn Oath’s vast collection of beers only available in their tap room. The highlight for me was a barrel aged saison called Sybil’s Revenge. Look at those barrels hard at work.
One of my favorite shots of the very first home brew recipe I pieced together on my own. I haven’t home brewed much in the last couple of years due to a million reasons (or excuses), but I was always especially proud of this one. I’ve never been able to duplicate the rich mouth feel on another home brewed beer… Read More
Anyone who knows me knows I am an American Pale Ale junkie. While my heart will ALWAYS belong to New Glarus’ Moon Man No Coast APA (quite possibly the most perfect beer), Crash Landed by Chicago’s Begyle Brewing is as good as they come.
